In layman's terms, a pilot is the driver of the aircraft. He is the commander of the aircraft under control, right from its take-off to its landing. He is responsible for navigating the aircraft from the cockpit and maintaining contact with the control tower.

He interprets the weather conditions for the safe travel of the passenger along with the cargo. A pilot should have high operations skills and interactive skills, and he should also be able to grasp information and decode it.

 

Example: The pilots of Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet's etc. who are responsible for flying the passengers from one destination to other, are the commercial pilots.

What are the roles and responsibilities for Commercial Pilot?

 

  • A commercial pilot collects information about the route, weather, passengers and aircraft.
  • Use that information to create a flight plan, which details the altitude for the flight, the route to be taken and the amount of fuel required.
  • Supervise the loading and fuelling of the aircraft.
  • They communicate with air traffic control before take-off and during flight and landing.
  • Making sure all safety systems are working correctly.
  • Briefing the cabin crew before the flight and maintaining regular contact throughout the flight.
  • A commercial pilot carries out pre-flight checks on the navigation and operating systems.
  • Ensuring noise regulations are followed during take-off and landing.
  • A commercial pilot needs to understand and interpret data from instruments and controls.
  • They make regular checks on the aircraft's technical performance and position, on weather conditions and air traffic during flight.
  • They communicate with passengers using the public address system.
  • Reacting quickly and appropriately to environmental changes and emergencies.
  • Updating the aircraft logbook and writing a report at the end of the flight noting any incidents or problems with the aircraft.
